The WCAAA has funded three programs for FFY 2011 aimed at directly helping grandparents raising grandchildren. With Older Americans Act and state matching funds, CT Legal Services will continue to provide legal advice as well as benefit assistance through public educational forums for seniors who are raising grandchildren. Special topics to be included are: guardianship through Probate/Juvenile Court, health care programs, educational services, childcare, etc. In 2011, CLS has funds to pay for grandparents’ emergency care giving needs. In the past four years, this pilot has worked well for grandparents who were given custody of grandchildren and who had emergency needs such as beds, bed linens, winter clothing.

The Naugatuck YMCA will continue to operate their very successful "Time Out to Play" before and after school care and camp for grandchildren of seniors who are care. Under this program, seniors can also take advantage of exercise programs.
